eLearnChat 363 – Gary Schulties, President of Global eLearning - Training Localization
In this episode of eLearnChat, Gary Schulties gives you insight into the world of localization for eLearning and other training.
He lays down some important concepts like narrow fluency, that is, being fluent in a language only where it's relevant to a certain activity.
For example, he gave the example of his own narrow fluency of Spanish, where he mainly knows the language as it's useful in the context of farming, due to his own association with farming ventures in Central America.
Gary talks about "going for the heart"—striving to make translations that are not only understandable, but which have an emotional impact for the person who takes the training. We learn about Global eLearning's own process for hiring and creating translation teams that give the best result for the training's target audience.
There was quite a lot covered here, and a lot that I didn't know before. What are your thoughts on what Gary discussed with us? Note that (as with all our recent videos) you can see different topic chapters in the show by mousing over the video progress bar.
